Understanding How Delta Binaural Beats Work

The delta brainwave state is the lowest zone in the brainwaves chart, and delta binaural beats recordings are created using frequencies between 1-4 Hz.

The delta zone is most commonly associated with sleep, and although the brain does cycle through different states during the five stages of sleep, delta is most active in stages 3 and 4.

If you’ve ever woken up and felt irritable, confused, or disorientated, you most likely woke up during the delta stage of sleep.

The delta state is also associated with healing, increased empathy and detached awareness, which would go some way in explaining why therapists, guides, teachers and those working in professions that involve helping others tend to have more delta brain waves in their brain wave makeup than others while awake. Spiritually advanced individuals and healers also display the same trait.

Healing Properties

Delta brainwaves are the longest and slowest of all the states, and contain special healing properties. Certain frequencies in the delta zone trigger the release of Human Growth Hormone (HGH), which is beneficial for bodily healing and regeneration.

This is why delta waves are so essential, because first they help us sleep and then assist the body's healing processes. In addition to HGH, researchers have discovered that when delta waves run through the brain they also produce other healthy substances such as DHEA and melatonin,

Increased Intuition

Delta is also the zone in which the subconscious becomes heavily active and intuition arises. This makes delta binaural beats not only great for sleep, but also for accessing unconscious activity and enabling the information flow to your conscious mind for cleansing and self-empowerment.

Delta frequencies are often used in Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming recordings for this very reason; although often low theta is a better choice for those who have trouble holding their awareness and not falling off to sleep.

It is quite rare to have conscious awareness of delta brainwaves, and retaining consciousness in this zone takes a lot of training. Theta/low alpha frequencies are better suited for meditation and higher spiritual awareness because they promote insight from the subconscious mind.

Theta brain waves turn the mind inwards, whereas delta waves provide us with access to external unconscious material – the stuff you find in the dream world that often makes no sense at all.

Stress Reduction

Increasing the production of delta brainwaves reduces the production of the stress hormone, cortisol. This hormone kills brain cells and speeds up physical and mental aging.

Having a healthy amount of delta sleep is therefore essential to living a long, healthy life, and to feeling happy throughout the day. Without enough delta sleep, cortisol rises, which is why you find yourself a little down in the dumps without enough sleep.

A Final Word…

Although delta sounds great, it is important to remember that there is no one single brain state that is preferable to have at all times.

As humans we need a healthy balance of each. A problem arises when we get stuck in beta all the time or can't get out of low theta, for example.

Listening to a balanced cross-section of binaural beats recordings will help you achieve a healthy life balance of Delta-Theta-Alpha-Beta; so you'll be calm yet assertive, alert on demand, focused in the moment and fully rested in the morning.
