Amidst the chaos of our busy lives there is a beauty to be found in simply being.
We’re endlessly bombarded with conversations, news, events and demands that our minds become a constant deluge of thoughts dwelling in the past and worrying about the future.
We are constantly distracted, our minds pulled in all directions every moment of the day.
This can make us feel unsettled. You know that uneasy feeling of what’s next? Did I finish that? What have I forgotten? I wish that hadn’t happened…you get the picture.
But all of that melts away when we focus on just being.
When we just take time to step into this moment, right here, right now, and just be.
Of course, you can “be” while doing, too. Whether you’re sitting, walking, writing, reading or eating, by being in the moment while you’re doing, the stresses, anxieties and distractions drop away.
For most of us, however, getting around to contemplating this state is difficult enough, let alone doing it. We are always convincing ourselves we just don’t have the time to relax and treat ourselves to some ‘me time’.
But today will be different. Because today is the day you don’t think about it. Today is the day you just do it!
And we’re going to make this possible using one of your binaural beats meditations.
The great thing about using binaural beats is that the audio not only helps induce the desired brain state but it provides us with a prompt to take a moment to step into the moment, if you know what I mean.
It’s a facilitator, a catalyst for action.
When you have an aid, a tool, if you like, you can say, “Right, I need some me time. I’m going to totally relax for 30 minutes. I’m going to forget all the stress and worry. I’m going to turn off the mental noise and external distractions, put on my headphones and turn my mind inwards for a while”.
Of course, you can perform a task while you listen if you want, but there is something so wonderful in the simplicity of just allowing your mind to turn inwards while you just “be” for a while, letting every thought fall away as you clear your mind and take time to refresh.
“When walking, walk. When eating, eat.”
So when being, just be…
This is mindfulness meditation, the discipline of being completely present, without the distraction of attachment and aversion, without the grasping, the worry, the anxiety, the constant thoughts past happenings and future possibilities.
So, today, when you’re caught up in the sandstorm of thoughts, feelings, to-dos and communications, grab your headphones.
Sit down in a quiet spot, hit pause on your day and play on that audio. Take a deep breath and let it all fade away.
Before you start though, clear away all other distractions. Focus on doing just that one thing you love.
Whether you’re just sitting there meditating or completely immersed in a task you love, let all thoughts of anything other than being totally present fade away.
Of course, thoughts will come and go, but gently notice them, let them go and return to the moment.
Let the rest of the world become a meaningless distraction. This is your time to be in the moment.
As you drift into the absolute present, you’ll realize that this is all that matters. In this moment there is everything.
And that’s mindfulness. What a beautiful thing.
